In rhapsody with Rhapsody

"Would you like a subscription to Rhapsody with 2 months free as well?" This was the question I was asked when I purchased my HP laptop (more on this later). Now, I already have iTunes on my work computer, and on my home desktop, do I really need another music downloading program? That is what was going through my head after the question was asked. My thought process was as follows:

  • No. I don't really need another music downloading program
  • However... It's free!!!
  • Yeah. but it's only free for 2 months. And that's how they get ya! "In 2 months you won't remember to cancel the subscription, and we'll charge your credit card automatically. Heck... You won't even know we're doing it." So, no, I don't need it.
  • Yet... The concept seems pretty interesting. Instead of paying $.99 cents for a song, I pay $9.99 per month, and I have access to their library of music, anytime I want it. So, sure, what the heck. And, if I don't like it, I can cancel in 2 months and not pay a single cent.

Motorola ROKR v. NokiTunes

Oct

ROKR v. NokiTunesMotorola and Apple announced the release of the Motorola ROKR: A cell phone AND mp3 music player! Now you no longer have to carry your iPod and your cell phone with you at all times. The ROKR will take care of that for you! or, will it? The ROKR comes with the capacity to hold a WHOPPING 100 songs. What? Yeah, 100 songs. Great, eh?

I don't know about you, but my iPod currently has around 2,500 songs on it. I'm no mathmatician, but that's quite a bit more than 100. It seems hardly worth getting rid of both your cell phone and your iPod to get this baby. It surprises me that Apple even agreed to this deal. They're the ones that usually come up with cutting edge technologies. This, however, falls well short of 'cutting edge'.

I personally like Patrick Haney's idea: the New (well sort of) NokiTunes nanophone.

Nice Tchotchke

Oct

Bodum Travel PressMy wife, who works for an ad agency in the city, recently received a tcho tchke from a client of hers. Now normally, these things are pretty lame, however this one was very impressive. The tchotchke in question is a Bodum Travel Press. Basically, it's a combination travel coffee mug and french press. And since my wife doesn't really like coffee, guess what? She gave it to me. So, this past week I've been making my own personal french pressed coffee at work, and I must admit, it's been a real nice addition to my desk.
