I bought "Get
Born" when it first came out (Jet's debut album), and was
very pleasantly surprised. Jet is the first band to bring
back classic rock. Their new album maintains that formula,
and this is a good thing.
I must say, when listening to a few songs on this album,
I can't help but be reminded of the Beatles. Don't get me
wrong, I would never claim that Jet is as good as the
beatles, but there are quite a few moments that seem to pay
homage to the best band that ever existed (Kings Horses,
Shine On, Bring It On Back, Hey Kids). Although I wouldn't
say this album comes even close to anything the Beatles have
done, I can't help but feel the influence of Mr.'s Lennon
and McCartney in this album. I was pleasantly surprised to
see that I'm not the only one that feels this way, either:
The Oasis factor is all over the place. Dave Sardy, who
produced that band's latest album, Don't Believe the Truth,
does the honors here, and Jet's Beatlemania in "Bring It On
Back" and the paisley-guitar chime of "Come On Come On" is a
lot like Noel Gallagher's spin on the '68 John Lennon. - David
Fricke (Rolling Stone)
Along with the Beatles influence, there is plenty of
heavy hitting tunes to enjoy as well: "Put Your Money Where
Your Mouth Is", "That's All Lies", "Come On, Come On",
"Stand Up", "Rip It Up".
Overall, this album won't disappoint. I have to say that
it gets better the more I listen to it. I recommend popping
it in, and putting it on repeat. Give it a few rotations to
truely soak in. If you like that good old classic rock
sound, then you're definitely going to like this album.

When I first heard "Nothing Left To
Lose", Mat Kearney's
single on the radio, I thought it was the latest from Coldplay.
Yeah, his voice sounds that much like Chris Martin's. At
first, you'd think this is a bad thing. However, it
works... And it works well.
In addition to the songs that sound like Coldplay, he's
incorporates a completely different style in a majority of
his songs in which he raps ("Undeniable", "Girl America",
"In The Middle", "Wait", "Bullet"). These are remeniscent
of former "House of Pain" rapper Everlast with his
solo album "Whitey Ford Sings the Blues".
If I were to tell you that you could mix Everlast with
Coldplay and get a great sound, you'd probably think I was
crazy. Well, here you go "Mat Kearney - Nothing Left To
Lose", give it a listen. I'm bettin' you're gonna enjoy it.
It'ss a great album that you can put in, hit play, and not
have to worry about skipping any tracks.

As a youngster,
I grew up listening to a lot of classic rock. Why? Cause I
have an older brother, and I wanted to be like him, so I
listened to what he listened to. Nowadays, that kind of
rock music is hard to come by. So, if I wanted to listen to
some great, pure rock music, I'd throw some Led, or Who, or
some Queen, or Sabbath onto the old iPod. And I'd be happy.
This is my idea of great rock. You don't hear that from
new artists anymore. At least not until recently.
This past weekend, a good friend of mind recommended
listening to this band he came across. He said they
reminded him of a cross between Led Zeppelin and Black
Sabbath. They're called "Wolfmother". And he was right.
These guys rock. Much like "Jet", they're a new
group with classic rock tendancies. And it's no surprise
then, that these guys are produced by the same guy (D.
Sardy). Lead singer Andrew Stockdale would take home the
trophy at a karaoke contest if he had to sing "Paranoid", or
"War Pigs", he sounds that much like a young Ozzy. And if
you took the vocals away, you'd swear you were listening to
some Zeppelin.
In short, the riffs are heavy, the drums are loud, the
singing dramatic, and the lyrics are simple. It's classic
rock minus a few years.
